Style Alert: FoHawk

So last week's post was basically just an advertisement for my show celebrating the one year anniversary of my debut album, "Love, Loss, Lies", haha, so I wanted to give another style update/tutorial this week.

I was deciding between a couple options for how I wanted to wear my hair for the concert and finally went with a fohawk look. Here's how to achieve the look!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

* hair BS/MB or longer
* gel
* grease
* rat tail comb
* small brush
* small elastic hair bands
* water

This looks takes around 1-2 hours to complete. The steps can be adjusted based on hair type (locs, twists, fro, etc.)

HOW TO:

Step 1: retwist
* retwist all locks lubricating/moisterizing with water, gel and grease

Step 2: parting
* use comb to part the front of the hair into three parts.
* divide the two sides into 5 vertical parts
* divide the middle section into 6 horizonal parts with the center also parted (so there willl be 12 total twists)

Note: I part and twist each as I go along; I just separated the steps here for clarity of the process

Step 3: twisting
* flat twist the 5 vertical parts on each side and the 12 horizontal parts in the center
* secure each twist with an elastic band
* two strand twist the ends of each flat twist for extra security and streamlining

Note: the number of twists in each section is optional - I've found that the 5-12-5 looks best but I've done as many as 7 on the sides and as few as 10 in the middle

Step 4: mini buns
* take each 4 of the center twists and make mini buns; there should be 3 mini buns

Step 5: buns
* use the rest of the hair to create three buns down the center/back of the hair including the side twists in the first of the three buns
* achieve the bun by either a) taking the whole section of hair and twisting it up and around itself, tucking to secure OR b) take a section of hair and divide it into 3 or more parts twisting it up and around itself in smaller sections to make the one bun (of the three).

Optional: Step 6: curlycue
* when you are ready to wear the hairdo you can undo the front mini buns for a front curlycue look that extends the fohawk. I have pictured here both taking them down and leaving them bunned.
* you can also use the small brush to smooth your edges

And there you have it! As you can see I LOVE this do and tend to come back to it a lot, haha; it works in a range of settings from casual - like in the pic at the bbq in the pink shirt to mega performance mode - like in the black and silver shorts/tube top pic performing for the CeeLo/Goodie Mob album release party. Whatever the occasion it's a cool do to rock!

Any questions??
