Before and After, After, After!

I know, I know. It's been three whole weeks since I officially revealed my natural big chop and I still haven't done a "before and after " comparison... so today's post is gonna do just that! In fact, I'm going to do a before and after, after, after! Haha, let me explain:

I have pictures from the before, which I'll post....then I'll post the pics from directly after the cut...then I'll compare those to my first stylist cut with straightening. Then lastly, because after I posted those birthday pictures, I got a lot of people asking if I had permed (relaxed) my hair, I'm going to post a couple pics of how I normally rock my hair. (And to answer the question....NO! I would never get a relaxer by choice lol.).

Ok, here goes:

BEFORE

AFTER

AFTER (straightened)

AFTER (everyday looks)

So that's it! I'm officially lock-less...and embracing/loving my new look :) AND still finding all kinds of kool things to do with my hair so that I won't get bored.

Big Chop: The Morning After

When you make a decision, and then carry it through, there is always that immediate reaction of satisfaction in having completed something. You did it! ...But it is the morning after making that decision that really counts. It often is a good indicator of how you'll feel about that decision in the longterm.

The morning after my "big natural chop" I felt liberated. My body had been infused with "happy endorphins" as I reflected on the next step I had made in my hair journey. I loved it!

I woke up with very anticipatory feelings. I knew I would feel SOME type of way,  I just wasn't quite sure if that would be negative or positive. Lucky for me, the happy high of the previous morning had not worn off yet....and to be honest it STILL hasn't worn off.

I absolutely love my hair. I love to run my fingers through it, to scrunch it, to manipulate it into new styles, to sleep on it, everything. And no feelings of regret crept in that next day after the cut. YAY. Lol.

Now that I've gotten past that "morning after", I'm already anxious to meet my one year mark!  #NewYearNewMe

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME: The Reveal!

So...I must admit, I've been a LITTLE dishonest. OK, maybe a little more than a little, lol. But I did it for ME and have no regrets! I CUT MY HAIR!!!!!!

August 6, 2016 around 12:30pm, I began a new journey with my head of hair. I hadn't said anything yet because I wanted to be able to live with the decision for a while and get used to my new look before I shared it with the world. A couple people guessed it because I still posted on my social media and such, but for the most part, I've gotten the opportunity to hold the "secret" all for myself. :)

BUT, for my birthday, I was finally ready to show the world! I'll do a "Before & After" post a little later but last week, for my birthday, I got my hair straightened and trimmed for the first time since the Big Natural Chop by Nyree of @reecreations on IG:

I am LOVING my bob and excited to find more ways to style my hair now that I'm like, bald! lol.

I'm so glad to FINALLY reveal the surprise and my birthday weekend was absolutely perfect! Libra season is in full effect! AND I did a photoshoot with AJ Johnson of SIN Magazine to capture my new look. Check out a couple of my (pre-edit) favorites below: MUAH!

Big Natural Chop...I Did It 😱

Excitement. Decisiveness. Anticipation. Anxiety. Ecstasy. Anxiousness...these are all the feelings that rushed through me as I awoke the morning of my cut. I had decided on this moment so long ago, and was FINALLY going to go through with it.

I set up my camera, washed the morning goo out of my eyes and started recording. After I did my intro message and all of that, of course it was time to wash/condition it.....and then THE CUT!

I cut the strands one by one, leaving a bit of it behind so I could try to comb the rest out. Unfortunately I awoke later than I had planned to so I didn't have enough time to really take my time with it like I should've. But, once I finished cutting it all and combing out as much as time would allow, I cowashed it again, shimmied some raw shea butter through it, and wrapped my Adinkra symbol covered scarf from Ghana around my wash and go fro so I could head out to my "After" interview with Mark.

I love it...I LOVE IT!!!!! After over two decades of growing beautiful, long, healthy, dope locs, I am starting a new leg of my hair journey without them. Hopefully you guys will stick with me in the journey as I discover new and exciting ways to style my hair!
